RF Coaxial Switch

An RF Coaxial Switch is an electromechanical coaxial device typically containing anywhere between 3 ports (SPDT = Single-Pole, Double-Throw) and 9 ports (SP8T = Single-Pole, Eight-Throw). Other configurations are also available. The main application for these devices is to perform bench top testing or computer-automated testing for RF systems, either in a laboratory or in a factory. However, RF Coaxial Switches are also used within RF testing equipment (e.g., to switch between multiple RF inputs or multiple RF outputs on a signal generator) and in large RF communication systems and networks (e.g., to switch between a primary circuit and a back-up circuit). Specific attributes which are important in selecting the right RF Coaxial Switch for your application include Configuration (SPDT, SP3T, SP8T, etc.); Switch Type (Failsafe, Normally Open, Latching, etc.); Maximum Frequency (GHz); Isolation (dB); Insertion Loss (dB); VSWR (ratio); and Package Type (this attribute mainly describes the type of coaxial connector used on the switch).
